More questions need answers before HRA takes on development plan

To the Editor:

I attended the Hull Redevelopment Authority’s public meeting on Feb 13. Here are my questions for the committee, and a comment to follow:

1. Could you present the findings of the Woods Hole Group study on the feasibility of

building on the HRA land?

2. Have you studied the occupancy rates of Hull hotels and the rates of business of

the restaurants during summer and in the offseason?

3. Can you show that the proposed revenues streams from Options 1 or 2 will be

equal to, or greater than, the costs incurred from such development in terms of water, sewer, gas, electricity, emergency services, and prevention and repairs from flood and storm damage?

4. How much has the tax revenue for Hull increased over the last few years from the

increase in home and condo values?

5. Have you considered renovating or rebuilding the elder housing units on Atlantic

Avenue?

6. Can the HRA take on other projects that will improve Hull instead of the current

proposals?

Hull has been extensively developed since the 1960s when the HRA was created. We

needed development then. Not now. Now we need to preserve what we’ve got. I ask

the HRA to pause and consider what Hull and all of us who live here want for now

and for our children.

Sincerely,

Laura Leventhal
